Azure blob storage is microsoft s object storage solution for the cloud. We call a managed disk managed because it is an abstraction over page blobs blob containers and azure storage accounts. Unstructured data is data that doesn t adhere to a particular data model or definition such as text or binary data. Azure managed disks are stored as page blobs which are a random io storage object in azure.

User defined metadata consists of one or more name value pairs that you specify for a blob storage resource. With managed disks all you have to do is provision the disk and azure takes care of the rest. The azure instance metadata service imds provides information about currently running virtual machine instances and can be used to manage and configure your virtual machines. The azure storage client library for net maintains these properties for you.

Blob storage is optimized for storing massive amounts of unstructured data. Below code is uploading sample invoice from disk and adds year month and day metadata properties. This information includes the sku storage network configurations and upcoming maintenance events. The most common scenario is adding metadata during file upload.
